IBM investe recursos e pesquisadores em projeto de Big Data Apache Spark

A IBM anunciou hoje um acordo que prevê investimentos de recursos e mais de 3500 pesquisadores no programa de Big Data Apache Spark que, segundo a companhia, “é potencialmente o mais importante projeto de open source nessa década que está sendo definida por dados”. O ponto central desse compromisso está na incorporação do Spark em suas plataformas de analíticos e comércio, passando a oferecer a plataforma como um serviço de nuvem da companhia. Ela também prevê doar o IBM SystemML para o ecossistema das soluções de código aberto.

Ainda como parte de suas iniciativas para acelerar a inovação no ecossistema open source Spark, a IBM também o levará para seu projeto Watson Health Cloud como suporte para a sua plataforma para a área de saúde. Além disso, colocará à disposição da parceria laboratórios em todo mundo e vai abrir o Centro de Tecnologia Spark em São Francisco para aproximar a comunidade de cientistas de dados e desenvolvedores e obter aplicações inteligentes e inovadoras.

A proposta da IBM é a de educar mais de 1 milhão de cientistas de dados e engenheiros no mundo Spark por meios de seus parceiros como a AMPLab, DataCamp, MetiStream, Galvanize e Big Data University MOOC.

Segundo a IBM, o sistema Spark tem crescido rapidamente em popularidade entre os desenvolvedores e cientistas de dados como uma plataforma essencial para ajudar as organizações a integrarem mais facilmente Big Data em aplicações, e está ganhando impulso com os clientes da IBM que buscam uma forma de transformar a tomada de decisão de negócios. Como exemplo, cita a Optibus, a Findability Sciences, IBC (Independence Blue Cross) e o projeto que envolve a própria IBM, Nasa e Seti Institute para analisar terabytes de sinais complexos de rádio do espaço.
